India is EXCITING Part 2

Monday, August 2, 2010
1. Raining season in India is crazy. You'll have to bring an umbrella every where you go, even if you only wanna go out to tapao food. Because you'll never know when is it gonna rain. Oftenly it'll rain without any notifacation. Just in a snap of finger, you'll be wet within seconds.
All of us din't bring umbrella on the 1st day in Manipal. As a result, see the picture.
 We learnt our lessons. Haha.
I even have to bring my umbrella when going for a jog. This is the End Point, a beautiful, unpolluted place at the far end of Manipal University.
We've to squad down to protect ourselves from the crazy heavy rain, which is pouring from all different directions.

2. Transport in India very cheap compared to Malaysia. From Manipal to Mangalore takes about 2 hours, same as the time need for us to get to Mid Valley from KTT.
India : bus fare= Rs.40(non-AC, equiv. RM2.90) / Rs.65(AC, equiv. RM 4.60)
Malaysia: Taxi to KTM(4 people sharing, each = RM4.50) + KTM (RM5)= RM9.50
Non AC bus. LOL. This is kinda scary.

Other than that there're these mini 3-wheeled vehicles called "auto" here, in Thailand you call it "Tuk Tuk". It's just Rs.15 (RM 1.07, shared between 2 or 3 people)to go around Manipal. It's like going to Nilai College from KTT.

The interior view of an auto. Seriously, I'm impressed by their driving skills. They can get an A++ for that.

3. My favourite part, FOOD. Food in India is super big in portion and it's VERY cheap compared to food in Subang, KL and KK.
Also,we can find a big variety of cuisines here: Western, Chinese, Malay, and of course, Indian cuisine. I think it's because there're many students from abroad are studying here in Manipal =]
Nasi goreng kampung, Rs. 45. About RM3.20

This is called Potato Lover. Crispy potato wedges covered with a special sweet sauce. YUM! Rs.30 (RM2.15) for such a big portion is super cheap.

Indian cuisine. My friend Boon Loey ordered this for Rs.90. (RM6.30)Yoghurt + Tandoori chicken + Butter chicken + rice + thosai I think. Super filling.
Nasi goreng Pattaya. Rs. 50 (RM3.60)

There's Domino's and Subway here too. Don't think there's no food here and don't' stuff yourselves  with tons of food before coming!

Domino's Pork pepperoni and cheese pizza

I'm seriously in the danger of gaining weight here. T.T

4. Levi's Store is a common sight in India. Almost in every mall, there must be a Levi's Store, no matter it's Levi's Signature Store, Levi Strauss, etc. I cant defferentiate between them anyway. Any one who can help me clear this up is highly appreciated. =]
Plus point is that Levi's Jeans here is super cheap!!! I just got my very 1st Levi's Jeans with 40% off from the original price of Rs.1399 (approx. RM100. after discount is....... You do the math. XD)

Levi's is having 40% discount storewide!!!

5. Drivers in Indian honk everytime they feel like they wanted to. In Malaysia if we honk, it might be a very dangerous situation that matters life and death. But here they don't care. If you're in their way, "HONK"! If they wanna overtake you, "HONK"!! If they wanna attract attentions, "HONK"!!! If they wanna turn right, "HONK"; turn left, "HONK"!!!!

It's a severe sound pollution to our delicate ears, seriously. Especially when you're sitting right directly behind the bus driver. You better get a pair of earplugs or listen to your IPod. Else you might suffer from tinnitus or even become deaf.  I'm being serious here.

6. Ladies shoes here... Frankly to say, it's not nice at all. =[ At least they couldn't attract me (for anyone who knows me, I'm a crazy SHOEPAHOLIC. hahaha). It's too bad that i din't bring much shoes, especially formal shoes from Malaysia. Luckily we can wear sandals here to lectures and lab practicals. =P
Oh ya, girls, DO NOT bring heels if you are coming to study in Manipal. Everything is within walking distance; in another word, you'll have to walk whole day here and there. Unless you're rich enough to hire an auto everyday to class and everywhere else.
I brought my beautiful heels and i can't even wear it. Plus it's rainy season here, at the end of the day, your shoes will get very wet and muddy. Ewwww. Better wear CROCS. Hahaha.

Some random pictures:
India's aftermint. At 1st i liked it, but... it actually tasted funny. lol. We were eating in a restaurant called Basil near to our campus.
Our lecture hall. =]
A tree in the beautiful Endpoint.
We went to Mangalore, and Lynthia brought us to a good restaurant called Sizzler Ranch. Portion is crazy HUGE and the price is very very very very reasonable. =]
Waiting for bus to go back to Manipal.
Another restaurant called Hangyo Saiba. Serves nice western cuisine and ice-creams.(but the spaghetti was overcooked. It was so limp that it looked like the Chinese's yellow mee. LOL)

Okay gotta go study my Dental anatomy already. Tata!
P/S: Credits to Boon Loey, Shawn, Lynn, Christine, and me for the pictures =]
